Grace under pressure

Anyone know where I can get some? My nails are in serious jeopardy, and I've only begun this whole query/submission process. It's a little beyond ridiculous.

The waiting game

Thanks for the well-wishes. Honestly, my heart is full to bursting with gratitude for this opportunity. I'm woman enough to admit that I shed a few tears yesterday (and maybe this morning, but I'm going to blame those on lack of sleep - I think I slept all of two hours last night.) I know, I'm an excitable sap, but my theory is that if I get it all out of my system now, I'll be completely composed when someone actually takes me on. Let's just go with that, shall we?

I got an email this morning saying that my submission was received, and that they're really backed up so it could take a couple of months before getting a response. My husband still doesn't understand that there's a whole bunch of waiting around in this line of work, and was all "Oh, that's too bad. You must be so disappointed." He was pretty surprised when I told him that it made me feel better to have a time frame. I mean, for one thing it's nice to know when I'll hear back, and for another, I'm hoping to complete a new manuscript so I can have another sample of my work, and this has given me a goal to work toward. I've always *worked best under pressure, and besides, I need something to keep my mind off the fact that my top choice for an agent has some of my pages.

What more could a girl ask for? (I mean, other than "the phone call" from said agent, and someone to clean the house.)

Besos :)

*definitely not looked best under pressure

My first partial!!!

My head is reeling right now. I'm so beyond excited, I can barely think. No, wait, I can think - and I think I'm nervous and a little bit scared! I know this is only the first little teeny baby step toward being represented, but still - somebody professional asked to see more of my work, and that makes me feel so good.

I've been an at-home mom for 13 years (which I love and wouldn't change for anything), but I have often wondered if the smart part of my brain would be able to survive until I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. This acceptance, small as it may be, makes me feel like my brain might actually still work!

I'm off to read over my first chapters for the zillionth time before emailing them tonight. I hope and pray they're good enough to get the request for a full.

I don't know how I'm going to be able to sleep tonight...

2 posts in one day...

I thought I'd post a little blurb about my story, since MeganRebekah asked in one of the comments. It's a 64k word YA (tentatively titled The Keeper) involving mental anguish, several deaths, true love, and a hint of the paranormal. There’s also a really, really cute Australian guy. You'll have to let me know if it hooks you.

Who would've thought having your dreams come true would be such a bad thing...

Tessa Thomsen used to take her visions for granted - but that was before she tried to warn her brother of his impending death, and he wouldn't listen. That was before a family heirloom imprinted itself on her palm. And that was definitely before learning the truth behind the disappearance of Nate Borden’s father. Tessa discovers the meaning of her dreams, becomes the foil to a sinister plot, and gets more than she bargained for – in life, love, and loss.

It's Official (no I don't have an agent - yet)

I'm on to the next project! I must admit, I was kind of at a loss for the past week. After toiling over the same story since last spring*, it's bizarre to switch gears, and to have to get to know new characters all over again. Maybe that's normal? Anyhoo, I'm back at it, and my poor husband is back to being greeted with blank stares as I daydream about new characters in alternate realities. He's going to deserve something extra special once I get published. I guess I've got a bit of time to think up a worthy reward for putting up with me and for buying me a laptop so I didn't have to share with the kids. I know for a fact that he's wondered (more than once) what he's gotten himself into.

So here's to the new project, to husbands that rock, kids who rule, and stories that need to be told.

*Okay, so I didn't work on the story that whole time. We actually moved and did a bunch of renovations last summer, so except for sneaking a in a little writing here and there, it was mostly on hold. By the time I got done with renos, settled into the new school year and knew where everything was, it was already October. Yes, I am a little slow. It's all right, I can admit it :) And then I had to take a big break before Christmas to prepare for my husband's family to come visit, during which time I got into a car accident (me on ice vs. tree -> the tree won, in case you're wondering...$16k damage to the car...). So, I really haven't spent that long writing this thing. It just feels like it because it's been on my mind the whole time :)

Back At It

Going over everything, making changes...fun, fun, fun! I'm not being sarcastic - honest! I actually enjoy this part, and after this final run through, I get to start my next project. Hurray! So away I go - slicing, splicing, transplanting...I'm a veritable surgeon as far as my manuscript is concerned. And that's a noble profession if I ever heard one :)
